Museo Ojos al Cielo

Description

Ojos al Cielo is a museum and a centre for interpretation and cultural dialogue, focused on the educational and informative activity of Astrophysics.

The museum opened its doors to the public in November 2023, with an interactive and didactic museum tour that aims to bring the public closer to the Universe, with its physical laws, its components, its dimensions (space-time), its mysteries and its inspiring beauty for the mind and for art, through direct experience, in a simple way and with a language (as little verbal as possible) that is accessible to all ages. The visit to the museum entertains the public (from 5 to 105 years old) with more than 15 interactive exhibits (others are under development and construction and will be presented in the near future) for a minimum time of 30 minutes that can be extended up to 2 or 3 hours and split into several visits with the same entrance ticket, courtesy of the owner.

Ojos al Cielo is an explicit invitation to observe with the naked eye the night sky of La Palma, the most beautiful sky on Earth, showing its peculiarities, its wonders, when and where to admire them.

Inside the Museum there is also an exhibition room where artists can exhibit their works on the theme "Sky" and at the entrance of centre there is a small shop with various articles, games and books related to Physics and in particular to Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Francesca Ghinassi Luschi, creator, director and owner of Ojos al Cielo, has been "resident astronomer" and "IR instrumentation manager" for 20 years at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo - TNG, on the island of La Palma (1998-2018). She studied Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Florence (Italy), and worked as a technologist and astronomer at TIRGO (IR Telescope of Gornergrat, Switzerland) between 1995 and 1998. In Italy she has prepared and realised Museums and Workshops on Physics or Science in general for the population and for schools. In particular she has participated to the realisation of 3  interactive exhibitions, in Italy, on: 1- optical effects, 2- electromagnetic waves, 3- the senses in the world (human and animals).

She is also a Gestalt therapist and instructor of Expressive Movement of the Rio Abierto system and in the last years she has been doing workshops in the Canary Islands and in the Sahara desert, combining the observation of the sky, tales from different cultures and own stories about the universe and scientific information with the expressive movement of the body, dance and harmonic development.
